Frequently Asked Dental Questions - Richmond, VA
Know More, Smile More
When it comes to dental health, knowledge is power, which is why we always take the time to educate our patients and answer their questions. You’re always welcome to give us a call and ask anything you like, and below, you’ll find our responses to some of the most frequently asked dental questions we receive every day.
When should I go to the dentist?
While this answer will differ depending on the individual, on average, a person should visit the dentist at least twice a year for a checkup and cleaning to help them avoid the most common issues like cavities and gum disease. It’s also wise to contact your dentist if you’re experiencing any oral pain or see visual changes within your mouth.
One of my teeth really hurts. What should I do?
A toothache can stem from many things: a cavity, a crack in the enamel, or just a piece of food being stuck between the teeth. If rinsing and flossing around the tooth don’t help, go ahead and give us a call. Waiting will only allow the pain and the problem to become worse, but we can schedule you for a same-day appointment and take care of it right away.
Which one is better: bridges, dentures, or dental implants?
Each option has its own unique pros and cons compared to the others, but in general, our dentists would primarily recommend dental implants to any patient looking to replace their teeth. They offer the most aesthetic and long-lasting option compared to regular bridges and dentures, and they also help stop bone loss, which other treatments can’t. Of course, we can only truly answer this question if you come to see us for an in-person consultation!
How long will it take to fix my tooth?
We can’t answer this question until we have a chance to examine you. Generally, we can stop any pain in a single appointment, and depending on what is going on with a tooth, we might be able to repair it quickly as well. For more extensive damage, we may need to place a temporary restoration before fitting you for a permanent one.
Will you accept my dental insurance?
Our dental office is in-network with numerous popular PPO dental insurance plans, so the answer is likely yes! We can give you a more definitive answer and discuss your coverage when you give us a call. We’ll also do our best to estimate what you’ll be expected to pay out-of-pocket at your visit.
I don’t have dental insurance. Is there another way I can save on my care?
Yes, our in-house dental membership plan offers similar coverage to traditional dental insurance, but for a lower price and with less red tape. You just pay one flat fee, and your routine dental care is covered for the entire year! You can learn about the additional benefits and sign up today by giving us a call.
